[Update #2]: Overwatch has added the Winter Wonderland 2020 event along with the awesome Priority Pass system!

[Update]: Overwatch is looking to significantly buff Reinhardt and D.Va, while also nerfing Baptiste.

There is no denying that Overwatch has a bit of a problem with population balance when it comes to its three roles. The number of DPS players greatly eclipses the number of support players, while the number of support players also greatly eclipses the number of tank players. The end result, as you might imagine, is that both DPS and support players can end up with extremely long queue times.

In order to solve this problem in a way that makes everyone happy, Blizzard will soon be introducing the Priority Pass. The way it works is that by queuing as the new "Flex" role you will be used to help fill out the underpopulated role (read tank), with your reward being the fancy new Priority Pass that allows you to jump to the front of the queue regardless of what role you select.

Those of you that have been around on the Internet for a while have most likely already seen the massive problem here, but don't worry, so has Blizzard. In order to get the maximum benefits from this new system you'll need to actually put in some effort and win the match, ao simply queuing up to throw the game as quickly as possible is not going to be worth the trouble.

So if everything goes according to plan, this Priority Pass system should greatly improve queue times for everyone. Not only will tank and support players now be able to occasionally queue up as DPS without wasting 10 minutes of their time on queues, but DPS players are also likely to see noticeably smaller queue times given the influx of new tanks. A win-win for everyone!
