The third annual Lunar New Year event will be coming to Overwatch a little bit sooner than expected. Instead of the usual mid-February release date, the event will be coming today (January 24th) with a bunch of new skins to collect, all of the previous Lunar New Year cosmetics, and most likely competitive capture-the-flag.
While the details are still few and far between, I am glad to say that Blizzard has now released teasers for quite a few of the upcoming skins. A good chunk of them are themed after the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, so expect to see a whole bunch of cool armor and surprisingly comical beards! The quality is unfortunately a little bit low as the Twitter videos are heavily compressed, but you should still get a pretty good impression of what each skin is all about. Have a peek:
While I absolutely love the idea behind these skins, I can't help but be disappointed by how bad some of the beards look. I can only hope that this is because of the trailer, and that the beards (and the skins themselves) will look significantly better in-game. On the positive side, the other skins are top notch and I can't wait to get my hands on them!
With the new skins now out of the way, it's also important to mention that the Lunar New Year event will be arriving alongside a sizable balance patch. You can expect to see nerfs to armor, D.Va and Brigitte, as well as a somewhat strange buff to poor ol' Reaper. The changes are likely to heavily impact the current meta, so prepare yourself for quite a bit of chaos once the update arrives!
