Overwatch 2 fox themed support Kiriko hugging her spirit fox

[Update #2]: Overwatch 2's October 13th update has fixed a bug that caused players to rank far lower than they deserve!

[Update]: As a small apology for the post-launch problems, Overwatch 2 is giving away a Legendary skin and planning double XP weekends

After what feels like an eternity of waiting, Overwatch 2 has now finally arrived as a free-to-play game. The sequel brings with it a brand new game mode alongside a variety of new maps, a new monetization system based around a Battle Pass and in-game store combo, as well as three new heroes to play around with: Sojourn, Junker Queen and Kiriko.

If you're wondering what the latter is all about, as well as what motivates her to fight, you'll find the answers you seek through the surprisingly lengthy animated 'short' below. Have a gander, it's a rather gorgeous one:

Just like all of the previous cinematics, the audio, visuals and overall attention to detail are absolutely astonishing. Blizzard really does have some top tier animators under their wing, and they only seem to be getting better with each passing year. Unfortunately, the same doesn't apply to the writers as the short's blunt, cartoon-tier writing once again heavily undercuts its emotional moments. I can only hope they'll sort this out with time as all it really takes is a tiny bit of trust in the audience to understand what you're talking about without laboriously spelling it out and ruining it in the process.

Whatever the case may be, I'll make sure to let you know once the next fancy cinematic goes live - most likely in a couple of months alongside the next and currently unannounced hero. Until then, I'd highly recommend giving Overwatch 2 a try if you haven't already. As I've detailed throughout my review, it might not be a true sequel, but it sure is a massive improvement over the original and a great deal of fun in its own right.
