Overwatch 2 artwork for the Null Sector leader tank Ramattra

[Update #2]: Overwatch 2's Battle for Olympus update has arrived with a fun novelty game mode and some truly awful challenges.

[Update]: Overwatch 2's Season 2 has now arrived with a new tank hero, escort map, cosmetics, and a bunch of strange balance changes.

Three years after he was introduced as a part of the Storm Rising event, Null Sector's mysterious leader Ramattra will finally be joining Overwatch 2 as a playable character on December 6th. The Omnic revolutionary will be joining the roster as a brand new tank and will feature a stance-shifting mechanic that lets him choose between unique melee and ranged focused abilities.

In his standard ranged form Ramattra will be able to fire a stream of damaging projectiles from his staff and create a small shield to help keep him close the distance. Once he's in close quarters Ramattra can switch to his Nemesis form which grants him bonus armor, the ability to create shockwaves with every punch, as well as a defensive cooldown that lets him shrug off most attacks from the front. Combine that with a vortex ability that is available in both stances and which slows and grounds enemies, and you've got yourself a fairly interesting toolkit to play around with!

As for his ultimate Annihilation, it allows Ramattra to spread a swarm of nanobots around him that not only latch onto enemies while dealing damage, but also reduce the amount of damage the affected enemies can dish out. Most interestingly of all, Annihilation will never end as long as there's someone tethered to Ramattra! It's probably not going to be as strong as it sounds on paper since most enemies will either escape or die shortly afterwards, but the thought of an infinite ultimate sure is a fun one!

[Update]: According to a developer comment, Annihilation will not be reducing enemy damage after all.

What Ramattra and all of his abilities look like in action, that you can check out through the gameplay overview trailer below. Have a gander:

If you prefer the written word, however, you can read a little bit more about Ramattra, his abilities and the design decisions that went into them over at the latest developer update.

Once Blizzard announces the next big addition, possibly even a brand new map that could launch alongside Season 2, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, I'll leave you with another gameplay preview showing off Ramattra. Enjoy!
