MTG Arena official artwork for The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth expansion

[Update #2]: The Tales of Middle-earth expansion has now arrived, and unsurprisingly, it's quite flavorful!

[Update]: All cards for MTG Arena's The Lord of the Rings crossover set have now been revealed.

Given the popularity of the two recent Dungeons & Dragons inspired crossover sets, it should come as little surprise to hear that Wizards of the Coast has decided to do another one. However, instead of going with Dungeons & Dragons for the third time in a row, the upcoming expansion is entirely themed around The Lord of The Rings!

Once it arrives this June 20th, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set will bring with it a wide assortment of new cards to mess around with for both the Historic and Alchemy formats. While the cards themselves have not been officially revealed just yet, the few that have been leaked (and quickly deleted) showcase some reimagined character designs as well as a middling power level. Whether the leak is actually real or simply an elaborate fabrication, however, that we'll have to wait and see.

Much like last year's Baldur's Gate set, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth will be a fully fledged expansion and will come with all of the usual goodies on MTG Arena. What this means is that you can expect to see a lengthy Mastery Pass, a variety of cosmetic styles for the new cards, access to both draft and sealed formats, and more likely than not, a couple of themed events as well.

Once more information becomes available, ideally once the full list of cards has been revealed as well, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you can read a few more tidbits about The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set over at the official website. Enjoy!
