Konami's teaser image for Silent Hill 2022

[Update]: Konami has announced four new Silent Hill games, as well as a Silent Hill 2 inspired movie!

In an announcement that seems to have inspired a mixture of both excitement and dread among the fans, Konami has just revealed that they have a big Silent Hill project in the works. The details are currently nonexistent, though the full announcement will be going live at 2pm PDT on October 19th.

Konami has also taken the opportunity to launch a new Silent Hill website, though once there is no actual content on there outside of a new logo. As such, it's anyone's guess on whether this unannounced project will be a brand new Silent Hill game or perhaps a remake/remaster of the originals.

Personally, I'm hoping for a brand new game, ideally guided by the same sort of principles as the classics. In other words, I'd like to see the focus firmly placed on exploration, atmosphere, subtle storytelling and a creeping sense of dread over the more bombastic attempts at horror from the recent games in the series.

If some of the long-running rumors are to be believed, I may yet have my wish as there's supposedly been a big Silent Hill project going in and out of development for a fair few years now. Whether that mysterious game will end up being a part of the October 19th announcement, or if the whole thing is just a fabrication, that I'm afraid we'll simply have to wait and see.

Whatever this new project brings to the table, I'll make sure to let you know once the full reveal goes live. Until then, have fun speculating!
