[Update]: After a remarkably long wait, the Homeworld series is getting a brand new sequel in late 2022.

After being announced only two weeks ago it seems that the massive update for the Homeworld: Remastered Collection is set to arrive sooner than most expected, on June 7 to be exact.

Patch 2.0 brings with it numerous improvements to ship behavior, changes to how ships line-up in formations, and most interestingly, the way the ballistics move through the void of space. Along with that you can expect to see a whole bunch of general balancing and bug-fixing, as well as a greatly improved set of modding tools and features.

While it might not seem like it, especially since the modding tools are often the last thing mentioned about this patch, a lot of work has gone into making them as powerful and as easy to use as they can be. The specifics are currently unknown, but Dave E. from Gearbox doesn't seem to lack in enthusiasm as far as Homeworld modding is concerned, or as he put it "I think that with all of the new systems and tools you're going to see Mods do some really exciting stuff. It'll take a while for them to get there, but the results are going to be worth the wait".

The patch notes are not yet available, but if you're interested in reading more about the development process behind Patch 2.0, and what exactly the team set to accomplish I'd recommend you head over to Fists of Heaven. They have done a brilliant interview with the Gearbox team, and have gone into so much detail that it might as well be the official page for this update.
