Mafia artwork and logo for the 2002 action-adventure

[Update]: The original Mafia game is now entirely free to grab, and will remain like that until September 5th, 2022.

In order to commemorate the Mafia series' 20th anniversary, Hangar 13's General Manager Roman Hladík, Head of Production Tomáš Hřebíček and Game Director Alex Cox shared their thoughts on the series' legacy, their part in it, as well as the sort of challenges they had to overcome. Most importantly, they also shared a bit of information about the future of the Mafia series!

"I'm happy to confirm we've started work on an all-new Mafia project!," reads the brief comment from Roman Hladík. "While it's a few years away and we can't share anything more right now, we're really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories."

So while a brand new Mafia game is currently in development, I'd recommend against getting too attached to it just yet. Even in the best case scenario it's going to be a few years before we hear anything about it, and given how many projects have been running into issues and delays over the past few months alone, it's also not that unlikely that the potential Mafia 4 could be further out than anyone can currently predict.

On a slightly different note, I have another bit of good news to share! From September 1-5, the original Mafia will be entirely free to grab on Steam. So if the new announcement has piqued your curiosity and you're now itching to give the series a try, this could be a pretty good jumping off point.

Once the giveaway goes live, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, have fun speculating about what sort of setting Mafia 4 will be going for!
