[Update]: The Plazas & Promenades DLC has now arrived alongside a small yet very focused free update.

Even though Cities: Skylines allows you to create some terrific locations, it always struck me as a bit odd how you can only ever make cities designed primarily with vehicles in mind. It doesn't matter if we're talking about a historical city center or a small community in the middle of nowhere - everything simply has to be encircled by roads.

Well, it may have taken us nearly a decade to get here, but I'm happy to say that Cities: Skylines's upcoming Plazas & Promenades DLC will finally sort this problem out! Once it goes live, the Plazas & Promenades expansion will bring with it pedestrian-only streets, the ability to designate pedestrian areas and special policies for it, a variety of new city service buildings to help decorate your city, as well as three new district specializations to push those customization options even further by letting you spawn only buildings of a certain type and appearance.

What all of this looks like in motion, that you can check out through the recently posted announcement trailer. Have a gander:

No exact release date has been revealed just yet, though the brief marketing blurb does state that the Plazas & Promenades DLC will be "coming soon." Once it does, I'll make sure to let you know.

Until then, you can learn a little bit more about the Plazas & Promenades expansion, as well as Cities: Skylines in general, over at Steam. Enjoy!
