Lucio striking a pose in Lucio Ball

Blizzard recently added 90 new cosmetic items to Overwatch as a part of the Summer Games update, but also a brand new brawl modeled after everyone's favorite car acrobatics game that occasionally involves scoring goals as well - Rocket League. As you might expect, the Rocket League inspired Lucio Ball ended up being a good amount of fun and a perfect diversion from the otherwise competitive nature of Overwatch.

Unfortunately, people quickly realized there are ways of exploiting the mode in order to spawn as heroes other than Lucio, and then simply mow down the unarmed opposition and score goals with impunity. After spending a week desperately trying to fix this issue and running into even more problems, Blizzard has finally announced that they will soon start punishing those that are willingly exploiting Lucio Ball in order to ensure the brawl actually remains fun.

Here's the brief announcement message from Overwatch's Director, Jeff Kaplan:

"Apologies for this bug. We've attempted to fix it numerous times and have had unrelated issues preventing the fix. We hope to have a fix this week.

In the meantime, we are in discussions with our Customer Support group to start taking action against those deliberately using the bug to play heroes other than Lucio.

Please do not exploit this bug. Fair warning."

If you've accidentally triggered this bug, worry not as Blizzard tends to be quite lenient on those that aren't obviously and deliberately exploiting it in their favor. On the other hand, they also tend to be quite lenient on those that are exploiting these things as well, but at the very least they are reacting and taking steps to make sure Lucio Ball is an actually fun mode once again.

[Update]: Blizzard has now issued week-long bans for everyone that actively exploited this bug. A perfectly fair amount in my humble opinion since its annoying enough that it'll make people reconsider further nonsense, but short enough that it won't make them actively hate the game because of it. Nicely done Blizz.
