Back 4 Blood official artwork and logo for the third expansion - River of Blood

[Update]: Back 4 Blood will not be getting any more content updates as Turtle Rock Studios are now working on a brand new game.

While the whole thing got slightly overshadowed by the release of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the co-op focused Back 4 Blood has just recently launched a sizable new expansion. The ominously titled River of Blood brings with it the sixth chapter of the story campaign containing five new maps to explore, as well as a rogue cultist by the name of Tala that comes with a friendly tallboy bodyguard named Jeff!

You can also expect to see a couple of new weapons such as the flamethrower, the first set of attachments for melee weapons, as well as a whole host of new cards and cosmetics to collect along the way. And if you're in the mood for a bit of friendly competition, the River of Blood expansion has also added Trial of the Worm as a new game mode with its own leaderboards.

Trial of the Worm will have you and your team fight through a series of voted-on maps, all the while selecting new corruption modifiers to overcome. The more modifiers you select the harder your journey, though the more score you'll get at the very end. So if you want to make it to the very top of the leaderboards you'll need to overcome some nasty yet entertaining challenges.

What all of this looks like in action, as well as what the new storyline is even all about, that you can find out through the launch trailer below. Have a gander:

As is tradition, the River of Blood expansion has also brought with it a chunky free update with a variety of fixes, quality-of-life improvements and balances tweaks. You can check out the full list of changes and additions over at the official website.

Have fun with the new campaign, and I'll make sure to let you know once Back 4 Blood unleashes the next big update.
