Back 4 Blood Children of the Worm expansion movie poster style artwork

Despite each expansion getting better and better in terms of quality, it looks like Back 4 Blood never managed to capture enough of an audience to warrant long-term support. And so, after a little over a year's worth of updates, Turtle Rock Studios are now shifting their attention towards their next big project.

"With three expansions – Tunnels of Terror, Children of the Worm, and River of Blood – we’ve traveled on a fantastic adventure together beyond the walls of Fort Hope," reads the brief announcement. "This phase of our war against the Ridden now comes to a close."

"Turtle Rock Studios is actually pretty small for a studio making AAA games. We don’t have quite enough folks to continue working on Back 4 Blood content while we spin up another game – yes, another game! Given this, it’s time for us to put our heads down, get back in the lab, and get to work on the next big thing. Intrepid Cleaners, this is not a goodbye."

While I know this will come as a massive disappointment to some, especially considering how much better Back 4 Blood got thanks to all of the updates, I must admit I'd rather see studios develop new games over simply treading the same ground. So with a bit of luck Turtle Rock will take everything they've learned from Back 4 Blood, combine it with a bunch of new ideas, and create something truly outstanding for us to mess around with.

Whether that will actually happen or not, I suppose only time will tell. Once more information becomes available, about either Back 4 Blood or this new project, I'll make sure to let you know.

Until then, you can learn more about Back 4 Blood and its current state over at Steam. Enjoy, and I'll leave you with a trailer for the third and final expansion:
