Magic: The Gathering official artwork for Ravnica Allegiance's Dovin Baan

Whether you're a fan of MTG Arena or the physical version of Magic: The Gathering, you might be glad to hear that the brand new Ravnica Allegiance expansion is just around the corner. To be more specific, MTG Arena will be getting the Orzhov, Gruul, Simic, Azorious and Rakdos guilds this January 17th, while the physical version will be getting fully released a week later.

As far as the cards themselves are concerned, Ravnica Allegiance will bring with it 259 new cards (111 commons, 80 uncommonas, 53 rares and 15 mythic rares), though that number is slightly inflated due to all of the guild gates, lockets and dual-colored lands. Still, this a lot of new cards, and given the focus on multiple colors I fully expect Ravnica Allegiance to enable not only more dual-colored decks, but also triple-colored ones as well!

If you're wondering what exactly these cards have to offer, as well as just how terrified you should be of blue-green based control, you should head on over to the official website. The cards are all sorted based on their color, so you should be able to get a pretty good idea of what each new guild will have to offer.

The final thing worth mentioning is that if you decide to play the physical version during the pre-release event, you will also be granted a code for a free Traditional Draft (best-of-three) in MTG Arena. This is unfortunately a bit smaller of a bonus than last time given that during Guilds or Ravnica's release you could get a code for a free Sealed entry, but I suppose it all really depends on which mode you prefer.

If any more important announcements turn up I'll make sure to let you know, but until then I wish you the best of luck with the MTG Arena ladder during these final days of Guilds of Ravnica!
