Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty artwork for a futuristic cyber-ninja

[Update]: Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty has now arrived alongside a host of cyber-ninjas, biker rats and mechanized goblin samurai.

After an extended stay in the land of eternal darkness and gothic horror, Magic: The Gathering is now going in a completely different direction with the upcoming Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty set. Once it arrives this February 10th onto MTG Arena, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty will bring with it an assortment of colorful cyber-ninjas, dastardly biker mice, ancient dragon spirits, and even mechanized goblin samurai!

Unsurprisingly, the actual card mechanics will also be focused around the divide between tradition and innovation, between spirituality and advanced technology. As such, there's plenty of artifact and enchantment synergy, a wide array of nifty vehicles and pilots that can crew them, cards that want you to honorably fight the opponent by only attacking with one super-buffed creature at a time, as well as a couple of surprises best not spoiled just yet.

If you're wondering just how all of these ideas have been translated into actual cards, you'll be pleased to hear that the entire set has now finally been unveiled over at the MTG card gallery. As always, Wizards of the Coast has sorted all of them by color, so you should be able to get a pretty good idea of just what each of the color pairs and deck archetypes are trying to do.

Given the cards I've seen so far, I must admit I'm quite excited to see how the draft format is going to play out. Kaladesh has already shown that vehicles and artifact synergy cards can add a great deal of flavor and complexity to a set, and by the looks of things Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty has taken that concept and pushed it to the extreme. So outside of some of the mythic cards seeming like they might just end games on the spot due to their power level, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty's draft format is looking like it might be one of the better ones in recent memory.

Whatever the case may be, I suppose we'll find out soon enough as Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty is set to launch next week. Once it does I'll make sure to let you know, but for now you can learn a little bit more about it over at the official website.
