As if the poor Gamestop employees did not have it hard enough with people constantly calling to ask if they have Battletoads, Microsoft and Rare have now come out to announce a brand new Battletoads game! The details are still few and far between, but what I can tell you is that Battletoads will be coming to PC and Xbox One in 2019.

In terms of gameplay features you can expect to see three-player couch co-op, 4K hand-drawn 2.5D visuals, as well as "body morphing genre mash-ups". In other words, the new Battletoads is indeed going to be a Battletoads game, and thankfully, one that does not take itself very seriously as you'll see in the brief teaser trailer below. Have a look, but don't expect to see much just yet:

While it has become a bit of a meme these days, I'm actually quite happy about this announcement. The original Battletounds was a pretty darn enjoyable game once you got past the brutal difficulty curve, so if this new Battletoads can keep the same sort of charm while removing some of the downright unfair stuff, I can definitely see it becoming a staple couch co-op game.

Once again, Battletoads will be coming in 2019 for both PC and Xbox One, though no actual release date has been given just yet. Once more details get revealed I'll make sure to cover them, but until then I'm afraid we're just going to have to wait and jam out to the original's soundtrack!
