[Update]: The Sinking City has now arrived for both PC and consoles!

If there is one genre of gaming I have a massive soft spot for, it would be adventure games thoroughly steeped in Lovecraftian elements. With that in mind, I am delighted to announce that The Sinking City is going to be just that, a Lovecraftian adventure-investigation hybrid that will have you attempt to unveil a sinister plot while still maintaining at least some semblance of sanity.

The recently posted trailer won't exactly tell you much about the gameplay, but it will give you a pretty darn good idea of the sort of atmosphere and tone The Sinking City is aiming for. Have a gander, it's quite an interesting video:

As for the gameplay itself, most of it will be taking place in the open-world environment of the titular sinking city - Oakmont. Worry not as this won't be an open-world with radio towers and thousands of collectibles to find, but rather one that you will have to thoroughly explore in order to find leads for your investigation. As you might imagine given the open-world tag, you will be able to conduct your investigation in any way or order you want, which if done well should provide a rather personalized story.

The final thing worth mentioning is good ol' fashioned insanity. Since you will be dealing with things far beyond mortal comprehension, there will be serious consequences for drawing unwanted attention, or even just staring at supernatural beings and events for a bit too long. It's certainly an interesting idea, though as we've seen throughout the years, it's one that can very easily begin to feel arbitrary and annoying rather than immersive and terrifying. As such, I must admit I'm quite curious to see how the developers will handle it in The Sinking City.

Speaking of which, The Sinking City will be having a major presentation during this year's E3, so if you would like to learn more make sure to keep an eye out for it. Alternatively, you can also visit the official website as the developers have done an excellent job explaining their plans for The Sinking City.
