The Legend of Bum-bo early screenshot of the actual gameplay

After being teased for around two years now, Edmund McMillen and James Id have finally revealed some actual gameplay footage from The Legend of Bum-bo. In short, it's a turn-based puzzle RPG that will have you form pagan glyphs (via a match 4 puzzle system) in order to use offensive and defensive abilities, as well as create resources used to cast powerful 'spells'. While it might be too early to tell, it really does seem like The Legend of Bum-bo is going to be a bit of a new take on the PuzzleQuest formula.

If you're not sure what exactly that entails, or if you're just curious to see what The Legend of Bum-bo even looks like, allow me to share with you the recently posted trailer. It should give you a pretty darn good idea of what to expect. Have a gander:

"Most may notice Bum-bo seems to have a lot of ties to the binding of isaac," reads the official announcement. "I like to call it a prequel, but what i mean by that outside of the obvious themes isnt something i can really explain without spoiling too much, but i can assure you if you enjoyed isaac and also like turn based combat and puzzle games, the legend of bum-bo should be right up your alley."

"Every dungeon bum-bo enters will be randomly generated and much like isaac feature hoards of monsters, bosses, traps, puzzles and randomly chosen spells, so each run will be totally unique and each successful play through will unlock more items, trinkets, playable characters and more."

I can't say I'm too excited about the gameplay shown so far, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be grabbing it as soon as it comes out. There really is something special about Edmund McMillen's style and the worlds he creates.

As far as release dates are concerned, you can expect to see The Legend of Bum-bo at some point later this year on both Steam and iOS, while a Switch release will be coming sometime next year. You can learn more, as well as follow Bum-bo's development moving forward, over at the official website.
