Europa Universalis IV's "Fredman's Epistles" DLC is available for free until July 4

Paradox has been rolling in success lately. Hearts of Iron IV has managed to sell over 200,000 copies in less than two weeks after release, Stellaris is currently on 500,000 copies sold, and their "big hitter" Europa Universalis IV has just past 1 million copies sold, and this doesn't include any expansions or DLC!
Since Europa Universalis IV is a strange and wonderful game, Paradox has decided to celebrate its impressive milestone with an equally strange and wonderful DLC. The recently added "Fredman's Epistles" features a collection of traditional Swedish songs from the 18th century, and is set to provide an "authentic piece of Swedish culture to Europa Universalis IV, perfect for taking on the world as a Scandinavian superpower".
Sierra-styled horror adventure Dark Fear has landed on PC
- By Ash
- in Indie Games
While Dark Fear's unimaginative title might point towards it being a creatively bankrupt piece of shovelware, in truth its actually a uniquely styled 2D horror adventure that takes inspiration from the old Sierra point & click classics.
The gameplay is a blend between turn-based RPG combat and point & click exploration that will have you travel through a diverse landscape, chat around with the hopefully friendly locals, upgrade your weapons and armor in order to square off against the beasts that lurk in the dark, and bizarrely enough, complete fishing and hunting minigames. If you're interested in seeing what all of this looks like, here's the trailer:
Hotline Miami 2's Level Editor is now available
- By Ash
- in News
After being in beta for nearly half a year now, the Hotline Miami 2 Level Editor is finally ready for a public release. In other words, you can now create your own Hotline Miami 2 maps, share them via the Steam Workshop, and then gloat at the incompetence of all your friends as they fail again and again to pass through your murder-hallway.
As a part of its transition from beta to full release the Level Editor has also received an update simply titled as v1.05, which brings with it a number of minor fixes and changes. You can read the full patch notes over at the Level Editor forum on Steam.
Space Marines have arrived to Battlefleet Gothic: Armada

After being teased last week the venerable Space Marines have finally brought their massive cathedral ships and equally massive weaponry to Battlefleet Gothic: Armada. Everyone who owned the game before June 21 will find themselves with a free copy of the Space Marine DLC, while the rest will need to offer up a sacrifice to the Emperor (in the form of €5,24 with the currently ongoing discount) in order to try them out.
As far as tactics are concerned, the Space Marines come with heavily armored ships, packed full with highly trained and genetically modified super-soldiers. Expect to do a whole lot of close quarters combat, aggressive boarding, and naturally, ramming anything even slightly smaller than you! If you're wondering what all of this looks like in action, here's the recently posted "Space Marines" trailer:
Battlefield 4's Second Assault expansion pack is free until June 28

With Battlefield 1 slowly approaching EA has decided to drum up a bit of excitement by offering a select few Battlefield 4/Hardline expansions packs for free. The first one of these is, ironically enough, the "Second Assault" DLC for Battlefield 4, which brings with it four remastered versions of Battlefield 3 maps.
You can grab the "Second Assault" DLC for free on Origin, but make sure not to slack off for too long as the promotion is set to end on June 28. While I'm not sure why EA decided this was an occasion worthy of a trailer, they went ahead and produced one anyway. You can check it out below:
Torment: Tides of Numenera Review #2 - Five months after the Early Access launch (spoiler free)
- By Ash
- in Reviews
[Note]: This review is now greatly outdated, so instead I would recommend you head over to my final, release version review instead. It should give you the best and most accurate overview of what Torment: Tides of Numenera is really all about.
The last time I played Torment was back in January, and even though it showed great potential it wasn't something I felt comfortable recommending, mostly because it was both unfinished and unpolished. Many months and updates have come and gone since that review, however, and I'm happy to say that the Torment of today is a greatly improved version of the rough demo I experienced so long ago.
Its still unpolished, there's no doubt about that, but most of the missing content has been filled in, the stuttering has been taken care of, and the extremely bare-bones UI has been granted a couple of meals, though its still quite undernourished. It might not be complete just yet, but this version of Torment is the closest the game has ever been to its final form, and as such I have decided to revisit it and see what exactly got improved, and what still requires work.
Before we begin, allow me to just say that I am basing all of my opinions on the first 5-6 hours. While I am definitely excited to play Tides of Numenera, on account of Planescape: Torment being one of my favorite games of all time, I want to have a mostly "pure" experience once I finally get my hands on the fully finished, bug-free version. This does mean I might miss out on some issues that occur only in the late game, but I've gone to great lengths in order to experience everything Torment has to offer, so I do believe I can still offer a comprehensive review.
Distortions, an atmospheric and musical adventure, has been announced

While most people consider exploration games as nothing more than walking simulators, I've found myself greatly enjoying the genre, especially since it most often comes with stylish visuals and a deep focus on atmosphere. These are all things I love to see in my RPGs, so it makes sense for the same elements to work well in a slightly different, but equally story-focused, environment.
With that brief explanation out of the way I would like to bring your attention to Distortions, a recently announced indie adventure with a deep focus on atmosphere, music, and exploration of a truly bizarre world. Before I say anything else, I would suggest you watch the launch trailer as it does a great job of giving you a taste of what Distortions is all about:
