A few months ago Blizzard revealed that they are internally discussing the idea of a 'level squish' - to reduce the current 120 levels to something a bit more manageable and lot less intimidating to new players. While nothing has been officially announced just yet, it would appear that Blizzard has indeed opted to do introduce a level squish and that it will be arriving alongside the next expansion.

This information comes to us from the most recent survey that featured this rather interesting question: "Are you aware the maximum level of 120 will be reduced in the future (i.e., "level squish")? I'd say that's about as close to an official confirmation as we're going to get for a while!

As for whether the level squish is a good idea or not, I am firmly in the "this can't come soon enough" camp! Right now leveling is a bit tedious as you get most of your important talents and abilities during the first 30 levels, after which you're mostly left with a couple of small abilities and upgrades to look forward to on your way to max level. Combine this with the leveling process taking an insane amount of time despite being fairly easy throughout, and you've got the two main reasons why I don't play many alts these days.

Whether the level squish will actually fix these problems and make leveling once again a truly engaging part of World of Warcraft, only time will tell, but I'm certainly happy Blizzard is at least attempting to correct the issue. After all, we can't really go much lower than this, so might as well shake things up!

Once more information becomes available I'll make sure to let you know, but until then all we can really do is sit and wait.
