Vermintide 2 artwork and logo for the Chaos Wastes expansion

[Update]: Vermintide 2's June 14th, 2022 update will add Be'lakor's presence to the rogue-like Chaos Wastes.

After learning from their mistakes with Winds of Magic's Weaves, Vermintide 2 devs have now returned to give the whole rogue-lite game mode thing another try. And as luck would have it, the brand new Chaos Wastes expansion is not only some of the best content Vermintide 2 has received so far, but the whole thing is also entirely free to boot!

The brand new Expedition game mode features thirteen fancy new maps to explore, a whole assortment of randomized traits and weapon upgrades to kit yourself out with, a bunch of new events and modifiers to contend with, and as is tradition, an innumerable tide of rats and Chaos worshipers to cleave your way through. And unlike the Weaves that fragmented the community into a hundred different queues, Expeditions use good ol' fashioned Quick Play to get you into matches pretty much instantly.

If you're interested in more details about how the Expedition game mode works, as well as how it all compares to vanilla Vermintide 2, I'd welcome you to check out my detailed preview. If you're just looking for the short version, however, I'd say it's a remarkably fun game mode that makes Vermintide 2 feel fresh and exciting again, even for an old veteran like me.

Besides the massive free update, Chaos Wastes has also brought in the Forgotten Relics DLC containing five new weapons. Kruber is getting a spear & shield combo, Kerillian is getting the fire-based Moonfire Bow, Saltzpyre is getting the absolutely ridiculous Griffonfoot Pistols (which are actually shotguns), Sienna is getting the crowd-control focused Coruscation Staff, and last but definitely not least, Barding is getting the mighty Trollhammer Torpedo!

In terms of price, the Forgotten Relics DLC will set you back €5. Much like before, none of the weapons are truly overpowered or mandatory, so buy it if you like the sound of it or simply ignore it. Either way, you'll be able to play around in the Chaos Wastes without any sort of restrictions.

Have fun with the Chaos Wastes, and I'll leave you with one of the trailers:
