In an announcement that I must admit comes as a massive surprise, Valve has now finally introduced digital gift cards to Steam. You would expect that the biggest and most successful digital marketplace for games would have this system up and running years ago, but apparently that was not the case.

Still, its better to have this sort of feature arrive later than never, especially since the giant Halloween Sale has just kicked off. You can learn more about the gift cards, as well as how you can buy them yourself, over at the official website.

While the concept itself is completely solid, it is worth mentioning that there are some heavy restrictions placed on the whole Steam Wallet system. Namely, any funds in your Steam Wallet are locked to that account and they cannot be transferred or withdrawn in any way. You can find all of the details at this support article, but needless to say, make sure you don't put funds into your own account lest you end up stuck with them. Its a minor annoyance as you can probably get Steam Support to help you out (after a week or two of waiting anyway), but its still something you should keep in mind before you go on a shopping spree.
