Torment Tides of Numenera Ninth World artwork

Much like Planescape: Torment that came before it, Torment: Tides of Numenera features a world full of mystery and intrigue, as well as a cast of characters that make all of that madness truly come to life. Even after doing two reviews of the Early Access version I am still discovering new storylines, new characters, and new plot points - the world is simply too wast and too intricate to uncover so easily.

While I am a big fan of complexity when it comes to storytelling, there is no denying that too much complexity can just leave the players dazed and confused, rather than intrigued and immersed. In order to hopefully correct this little issue ahead of launch, inXile recently released a lore video to get you familiarized with Torment's bizarre Ninth World and its even more bizarre inhabitants. Have a look:

As I've mentioned above, Torment: Tides of Numenera is currently in Early Access, but it is at a state where you can easily play it and a have a good deal of fun doing so. However, there are still numerous missing features, the combat requires a lot of work, and the UI shows a definite lack of polish, so do make sure you're well aware of this before you whip out your wallet!

Personally? I would recommend you hold off for now, because even though I believe that Torment: Tides of Numenera is a great game, you're only going to be able to play through it 'fresh' once. As such, it would be a massive shame if your first playthrough was mired with bugs, missing bits of content, and a combat system that is quite frankly inadequate. Just have patience for a few more months while inXile patches out all of the kinks and brings Torment to its true glory, after which I would fully recommend you dive in and see what the Ninth World really has to offer!
