Ubisoft's The Settlers official artwork and logo

As a part of a recent Closed Beta, Ubisoft gave a bunch of players the chance to explore The Settlers reboot ahead of its March 17th release date. Unfortunately, or quite fortunately depending on your viewpoint, the beta feedback ended up being remarkably negative and so Ubisoft has now decided to postpone The Settlers until they can polish everything up.

"The recent Closed Beta was a great opportunity for all participating players to share valuable feedback regarding the current state of the game, and we'd like to thank you for your involvement," reads the brief update. "As we went through this feedback, it became clear to our team that the quality wasn't yet in line with the team's vision."

"The additional time will be used to further improve the game and push quality as our main priority for our players. We will keep you updated in due time and give you more details on the next milestones for The Settlers."

Needless to say, I am absolutely in favor of this delay. As a long-time fan of the series I'd rather wait a couple of extra months, or even a couple of extra years if that's what it takes, than immediately play a game that simply doesn't live up to The Settlers legacy and instead just makes me frustrated. So here's to hoping Ubisoft can fix the various issues, polish up all of the content, and give us the excellent city-building strategy game many of us have been craving for years.

Whatever the end result may be, I'll make sure to let you know once Ubisoft releases the next big preview. Until then, you can learn more about The Settlers and Ubisoft's plans for the series over at the official website.
