[Update]: Two decades after the original, Ubisoft has now announced a Splinter Cell remake.

It has been quite a few years since the last Splinter Cell game, so you can imagine how excited people got when an accidental leak last year showed that Ubisoft is working on a brand new one. Ubisoft naturally denied the rumors, but the topic came up again earlier last week as Julian Gerighty, Ubisoft's Creative Director, quite bluntly stated that he is working on a new Splinter Cell game.

Once again Ubisoft came out to squash any rumors by saying that Julian was simply joking, but to be perfectly honest, I'm not exactly sure I believe that. A Creative Director is surely clever enough to understand that teasing a much-anticipated game right before E3 is just asking for trouble. Besides, a joke is supposed to be funny!

Where exactly the truth lies, I'm afraid I don't know, so I would highly advise against getting too excited just yet. After all, even if a brand new Splinter Cell game is currently under development, it could be quite a while before it finally hits the store shelves.

Once Ubisoft reveals more information, most likely during E3, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, all we can really do is sit and wait.
