Total War: Warhammer 3 artwork for Khorne's forces

[Update #2]: Total War: Warhammer 3 has made the Immortal Empires combined campaign map free for all owners!

[Update]: Total War: Warhammer 3's Update 2.3 has added new landmarks, tied AI behavior to difficulty, and rebalanced most factions.

Back in August Total War: Warhammer 3's Update 2.0 brought with it an absurdly massive amount of new content and balance changes to toy around with. This list of new additions includes the Immortal Empires combined campaign map, a new DLC featuring four powerful Chaos champions, a full rework of the Warriors of Chaos faction, the long-awaited arrival of blood & gore effects, a large swathe of tweaks for old legendary lords and factions, and the list keep going for a while.

With all of that in mind, it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to hear that Update 2.0 also brought with it a whole assortment of bugs and problems. Creative Assembly squashed some of the more pressing ones back in September with Update 2.1, and now it's time for the freshly unleashed Update 2.2 to pick up where its predecessor left off and sort out another batch of major problems.

First and foremost, all minor settlement battles will now take place in a standard 'land battle' map instead of a Total War: Warhammer 3 flavored settlement map. However, you'll still be able to get the highly defensible settlement maps by constructing and upgrading garrison buildings, so rather than being outright removed the settlement maps are simply becoming a bit less omnipresent which is definitely a good thing.

Update 2.2 has also greatly beefed up the campaign AI. Previously they were far too passive and weak to truly challenge the player, even on harder difficulty settings. As such, the new system has made them generally more aggressive and proactive, better at building up their infrastructure, as well as slightly more clever in battles.

Most importantly of all, the new AI is no longer able to directly declare war on the player's vassals! So if you're playing the Warriors of Chaos or Slaanesh, you'll no longer have to worry about your long-term allies randomly declaring war on you because one of your many, many vassals looked at them funny!

The full list of changes is quite vast, doubly so if you're interested in all of the multiplayer tweaks, so rather than babble on for an hour I'd highly recommend you check out the official patch notes. They're sorted out by faction and category, so you'll be able to quickly figure out just what is being changed for your favorites.

Once the next big update goes live I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, I'll leave you with the developer-guided patch overview. Enjoy!
