Total War: Rome Remastered official artwork and logo

[Update]: Total War: Rome Remastered has now launched alongside a somewhat mixed reception.

In an announcement that came straight out of nowhere, Creative Assembly recently revealed that they are working together with Feral Interactive to remaster one of the original classics - Rome: Total War. The new and improved Total War: Rome Remastered is set to bring with all of the DLC already bundled in, support for modern resolutions and a whole bunch of visual improvements, as well as some much-needed quality of life fixes and enhancements for the UI and controls.

If you're curious what some of these changes look like in actual gameplay, you'll be happy to hear Creative Assembly has just posted a brief preview covering exactly that. Have a gander, it's a rather interesting one:

While it's certainly not on the level of the newer Total War games like Three Kingdoms or Warhammer 2, these are some genuinely impressive improvements for a game that is nearly two decades old at this point! So as long as the UI and controls end up being as responsive as in the newer games, I have a feeling Total War: Rome Remastered will be a delightful nostalgia trip for series' veterans.

Whatever the case may be, we'll find out soon enough as Total War: Rome Remastered will be launching on April 29, 2021. You can learn a little bit more about it, as well as check out the FAQ, over at the Total War website.

And just for good measure, I'll leave you with the original and remarkably cheesy announcement trailer. Enjoy!
