An HD version of L.A. Noire has recently made its way to the modern consoles, bringing with it things such as 4K support for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. More interestingly than that, however, Rockstar has now also created a VR version for the HTC Vive - L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files!

The VR version features only seven of the original self-contained cases from L.A. Noire, but on the positive side they have all been rebuilt specifically with virtual reality in mind. As such, you'll be able to personally search for clues, get behind the wheel and drive to your next crime scene, engage in fistfights and shootouts, write down your own notes and observations, and naturally, interrogate witnesses up close and personal.

I haven't given it a try myself so take the following with a few grains of salt, but according to the Steam reviews the VR version of L.A. Noire is pretty damn good! It is a little bit on the short side and the visuals are dated, but if you're willing to let that slide you'll find what appears to be a truly excellent re-imagining of L.A. Noire. A pleasant surprise, I must admit.

Before you decide to dive in, however, do bear in mind that the VR version currently has some extra system requirements for those of you with AMD hardware. The developers are currently working on a solution, but until then here's what you'll have to watch out for:

If using an AMD Ryzen 7 CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (or above) graphics card is required to play

If using an AMD Vega 56 graphics card, an Intel i7 6700 (or above) CPU is required to play

Attempting to use an AMD CPU and GPU together to play the game is not supported at this time

If you would like to learn more about L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, or L.A. Noire itself, you should head on over to Steam. Have fun!
