For those of you that might be out of the loop, the upcoming Underworld Ascendant is an Ultima Underworld inspired dungeon-crawling RPG. What this means in gameplay terms is that you can expect to see an extremely large and complex world to explore, a diverse set of abilities and spells to decimate your foes (or yourself) with, as well as a whole host of enemies to constantly wage battle against. A fairly simple concept, but it's one that has unfortunately become quite underrepresented these days.

Since trying to explain all of this through words alone is not exactly the best idea, I am glad to say the developer OhterSide Entertainment has now posted a brief gameplay trailer. All of it still early footage so it's not exactly polished, but it'll at least give you a bit of an idea of what to expect from Underworld Ascendant. Have a gander:

As you can plainly see, the trailer gameplay has some serious problems with janky animations or framerate. According to the developers, this footage is from an older build and as such doesn't represent the current state of Underworld Ascendant, but even so I have to admit it's still a bit worrying to see such problems. I have some great memories with Ultima Underworld 1 and 2, and so I really do hope OtherSide can fix all of these issues and deliver a spiritual successor worthy of the Underworld name.

Underworld Ascendant will be coming to PC at some point in 2018, though no exact release date has been given just yet. You can learn a little bit more about it, as well as follow any future announcements, by heading over to either Steam or the official website.
