[Update]: Oddworld: Soulstorm Enhanced Edition is heading to PC and consoles on November 30, 2021.
In an announcement that I must admit comes as quite a surprise to me, the 2.5D side-scrolling platformer Oddworld: Soulstorm has now been unleashed onto PC and PlayStation. Much like its predecessors, Soulstorm is all about planning, sneaking and frantically running in order to bypass a variety of devious traps and nasty aliens, all in an effort to save your fellow Mudokons from ruthless oppression and slavery.
Rather than babble on, allow me to share with you the recently posted launch trailer. It should give you a pretty good idea of just what Soulstorm looks like in action and what sort of story you'll be getting yourself wrapped into. Have a gander:
When it comes to its quality, I'm afraid I'm currently entirely in the dark. Due to Soulstorm being an Epic Games Store exclusive there are currently no user reviews to comb over, and since review copies were only sent a day before launch there are none of those around either.
So unless you're incredibly eager to dive in, it might be a good idea to wait a few more days for reviews and opinions to start flooding in. This way you'll not only know whether the gameplay itself is any fun, but you'll also likely avoid some of the nastier bugs that are bound to get patched as soon as they're caught.
To learn more about Soulstorm, as well as keep an eye on any future developer updates, you should visit the Oddworld website. Enjoy, and here's to hoping Soulstorm really does end up being a worthy successor to Oddworld's legacy!
