Layers of Fear is an indie psychological horror game and its great

The horror genre these days seems to be the dumping ground of "youtube bait" games as I like to call them, games without much substance or any real dread to them, only cheap jump scares.

So when an actually well done psychological horror in the form of Layers of Fear announces its leaving Early Access on February 16th you bet I'm excited even though I'm probably going to chicken out from playing it through to completion. Here's the trailer:

I have a rather wild imagination, so much so that I completely avoided the darkness for the first 10 years of my life because the shadows played tricks with my eyes making me imagine the unimaginable horrors that lurk around corners.

So when I first tried to play Layers of Fear the game absolutely broke my confidence that I'll ever be able to finish it. There are naturally jump scares but they are used sparingly and the focus is instead on the psychological horror as you never know what to trust, what area is safe and when is it even a good idea to turn around.

Layers of Fear is best experienced blind so I'll avoid talking about specifics but in short its well worth its €12,99 asking price and with a rating of Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam with over 2600 votes it seems I'm not the only one that thinks so.

If you're a fan of horror games I'd recommend you keep an eye out for Layers of Fear once it comes out of Early Access this February 16th as it is a shinning example of the genre.
