[Update]: Wasteland Remastered has now been pinned for a February 25, 2020 release date.

While the original Wasteland is a relatively forgotten game these days, back when it first launched in 1988 it represented a massive evolution of the RPG genre. If you're wondering just how massive I'm talking about, it's well worth mentioning that the original Fallout took heavy inspiration from Wasteland, even though it released nearly 10 years later.

With that in mind, I am extremely happy to say that inXile Entertainment is now working on a remastered version. No details have been given just yet, not even what the remaster is hoping to accomplish, but this announcement is certainly a good way of celebrating Wasteland's 30th anniversary!

If you're wondering whether it's worth playing the oldschool version of Wasteland in order to prepare for its remaster, however, I would honestly say the answer is no. I can appreciate its legacy and how some of its ideas have greatly improved the genre, but these days Wasteland is simply too clunky and basic to be enjoyable for long. It's well worth checking out if you're interested in gaming history, but I'd recommend you wait for the remaster before giving it a proper try.

You can learn more about the original Wasteland, as well as grab a copy yourself, by visiting Steam. Enjoy!
