[Update]: Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 has been announced, and it will star a corgi piloting a mech suit!

While the Symphony of the Night inspired Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is still under heavy development, the dev team behind it has now fulfilled one of their major Kickstarter stretch goals - the release of the spin-off game Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. As you might imagine given its influences, Curse of the Moon is a faithful sequel to the oldschool Castlevania games in everything but the name.

Rather than waste your time trying to describe all of the similarities, allow me to share with you the recently posted launch trailer. It'll give you a pretty darn good idea of what Curse of the Moon is all about, and just how close it is to the Castlevania series in spirit. Have a gander, the video is adorably cheesy:

I haven't had the time to play it myself, so take the following with a few grains of salt, but from what I can tell it would appear that Curse of the Moon is quite an excellent Castlevania game. It seems to be a bit easier than the other entries in the 'series', but in terms of gameplay mechanics and exploration it's pretty much exactly what you would expect. So if you're fan of Castlevania 3, or pretty much any of the oldschool Castlevania games, then I do believe Curse of the Moon is worth a closer look.
