Dota 2 Siltbreaker campaign artwork

The Siltbreaker co-op campaign was supposed to arrive in late May, but since this is Valve we're talking about it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that it ended up being delayed. Thankfully the delay was rather brief, about nine days in total, so as far as waiting goes it isn't that big of a deal.

With the first act of the co-op campaign now live you might be wondering what exactly its all about, and whether its worth grabbing the Battle Pass for the story alone. If you're in it for the narrative then the Siltbreaker campaign is completely worthless since it barely features any story, and what little it does is completely irrelevant to the Dota 2 universe at large. As for the gameplay itself, its most similar to the RPG custom games from Warcraft 3. What I mean by this is that its extremely hard, requires previous knowledge in order to avoid instant-death traps, but also quite compelling as you get to see your characters grow from complete push-overs to nigh-unstoppable demigods.

Unfortunately, Valve made a ridiculously large mistake with the Siltbreaker campaign: they designed it for only the hardcore audience. If you want to enjoy and explore the world Valve created I sure hope you have three other friends to join you, because when it comes to online matchmaking the name of the game is speedrunning. And honestly, I can't blame anyone that wants to rush through the mode given that you only receive rewards if you blaze through the whole thing as fast as possible, and because there is no save system whatsoever! So if you want to have a second try at the final boss I sure hope you like going through the hour-long campaign again!

As such, if you're going to buy the Battle Pass for the co-op campaign alone, do be warned that its designed for the most dedicated of Dota 2 players. If you can't, or aren't willing to die over and over again until you learn every single enemy pattern and mechanic, I'm afraid you're going to find more frustration than fun with it. On the other hand, if you want a challenging event you can mess around in with friends then the Siltbreaker is able to provide that in droves. Whether this is worth the money or not, that I'll leave for you to decide.
