Absolver is an upcoming online combat RPG with a heavy focus on fluid melee battles, though with the combat style being more alike the one from fighting games rather than classic action-RPGs. However, instead of using predefined skills and abilities like you would in a fighting game, in Absolver you will be able to customize your fighter's entire move set, combos, blocks and dodges, special skills, and even weapons.

Given the amount of combat-orientated customization it really shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that Absolver will also have hundreds upon hundreds of fancy items to collect. A very good thing indeed, because as we all know online duels are not just about beating your enemy into submission, but rather about being as fashionable as possible while doing so! If you're wondering what all of this might look like in-game, here's the recently posted developer video showcasing character customization:

If you've only skimmed through the video, or if you've just played it without sound, you might be interested to hear that the gear will have an actual effect on gameplay. Heavier armor will obviously slow you down, but it will also give you the ability to take much more punishment than your opponent, which might just come in handy if your strategy is to simply trade blows until one side keels over. Similarly, if you're going for an extremely nimble playstyle that constantly pokes at the enemy you'll want to grab mostly light gear, though you'll always have the option to mix and match in order to achieve whatever look you're going for. It appears to be a relatively simple system, and to be perfectly honest that's probably for the best - the complexity should be centered mostly around the duels themselves, not the surrounding fluff.

If all of this has you intrigued, you'll be glad to hear that Absolver is set to arrive this August 29th for PC and PS4. To learn more about Absolver, or just check out some of the other videos, I would recommend heading over to the official website.
