Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition screenshot of a dead and unimpressed Beholder

Beamdog has announced that they are currently working on an "Enhanced Edition" of the classic RPG Neverwinter Nights, thus bringing it up to par with the modern versions of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale. However, while some of those games have received downright impressive changes and visual overhauls, it would appear that Neverwinter Nights will be getting a much more modest upgrade.

You can expect to see the UI scale with resolutions up to 4K, spruced up visuals and a couple of new graphics options, backwards compatibility for save files from the original Neverwinter Nights, as well as a variety of improvements for the modding tools. I'm afraid that's pretty much it as far as features are concerned. If you're wondering why I 'sound' so disappointed by all of this, it would be because I can barely tell the difference between the old and Enhanced Edition! And no, I'm not actually joking. Have a look for yourself:

In terms of gameplay content Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition will bring with it the original Neverwinter Nights campaign, the Shadows of Undertide and Hordes of the Underdark expansions, as well as three bonus modules: Kingmaker, ShadowGuard, and Witch's Wake. And if you're looking for even more adventures to play through, there will also be three premium modules to purchase: Pirates of the Sword Coast, Infinite Dungeons, and Wyvren Crown of Cormyr. The Enhanced Edition will set you back $20, while the price of the premium modules is currently unknown.

If you would like to learn more about Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, or just check out a comparison between the new and old versions, you should head on over to the official FAQ. There is currently no release date available, but you can expect to hear more news regarding this in the near future. And finally, allow me to send you off with a couple of images from the Enhanced Edition:
