The Bunker is a fully live action physiological horror

Back in the 90's this would've made me shake with dread, and not because I'm not a fan of scary games, but rather due to my fear of crappy FMV ones that somehow got made in the hundreds and infested every corner of the local video store.

Things are a bit different these days, however, as doing a game entirely in live action is not something many have attempted in the past decade, so here's to hoping The Bunker manages to pioneer an entire new style of gameplay. For now though, here's the trailer and the plot synopsis:

"You are the last remaining survivor of a nuclear bunker, 30 years after the blast obliterated everything above ground. Over the years everyone else has died, and their corpses are locked away in the cold storage room.

Your daily routine is the only thing keeping you sane - just - but when an alarm is triggered, your mind begins to self-destruct. You must venture deeper and deeper into the bunker discovering long forgotten zones and uncovering dark and repressed memories that finally reveal the terrible secret of the bunker."

The developers promise a tense and fast paced experience where every single decision you might make is going to be accounted for in live action video, everything from interacting with common objects, to finding secret rooms, and obviously, dying horribly due to making a boneheaded decision to investigate why exactly that door seems to be growling.

As for me, I'm going to err on the side of caution with The Bunker, mostly because its hard enough to make a good horror movie, let alone one where the player gets to pilot the main character and constantly repeat their actions. Thankfully, we'll only have to wait until summer to see if The Bunker is the beginning of a brand new trend, or the end of a long and tired one.
