Tempest Rising official artwork for the Command & Conquer inspired classic strategy game

[Update]: Tempest Rising's lengthy developer-guided preview offers a closer look at the campaign and gameplay mechanics.

If you're a fan of the oldschool Command & Conquer games and you mourn the direction the series took before its unceremonious demise, you might want to keep an eye on the upcoming Tempest Rising. To put it simply, it's a classic base building RTS with three asymmetrical factions featuring an assortment of unique units, playstyles and economies to wrangle with.

As for what all of this looks like in actual gameplay, as well as how exactly it ties into Command & Conquer, that you can find out by giving the reveal trailer below a moment of your time. Have a gander:

Besides the usual multiplayer madness, Tempest Rising will also feature two campaigns revolving around mysterious Tempest vines growing unchecked across the war-torn surface of the planet. They'll both be fifteen missions long and will serve as an introduction to two of the main factions: the Global Defense Forces and Tempest Dynasty, both of which seem like barely veiled nods at Command & Conquer's Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of Nod. The third faction will most likely be the dark influence behind the mysterious Tempest, though nothing concrete has been revealed just yet.

Similarly, no release date has been revealed, though you can expect Tempest Rising to arrive "soon" for PC according to the brief announcement blurb. Once we get more information, I'll make sure to let you know.

Until then, you can read a little bit more about Tempest Rising over at Steam. Enjoy!
