Surviving Mars is a sci-fi city builder that will have you attempt to not only colonize Mars, but also create a fully self-sufficient settlement. In order to do so you'll need to build drones and infrastructure, research new technologies and ways to upgrade your settlement, cultivate your own food, establish a mining outpost, and perhaps most importantly, try to do all of that while keeping your colonists alive throughout the whole process.

This might sound similar to other city-building games such as Cities: Skylines, but there is one very big difference and that is the fact that Surviving Mars takes place on, you guessed it, Mars! So while you won't be trying to solve traffic jams, you will need to ensure that your colony does not encounter critical failures, especially multiple times in a row. After all, even something as simple as a blackout could result in massive casualties since your life-support system is incapable of running on hopes and dreams.

If you're wondering how all of this translates into gameplay, allow me to share with you two of the most recent gameplay trailers. They're not very long or very detailed, but they'll give you a decent idea of what to expect from Surviving Mars regardless. Have a look:

On the other hand, if you're wondering whether Surviving Mars is any good or not, that is a difficult question to answer. As of right now the reviews are all over the place, with some being overwhelmingly positive and others so negative that you would think it's complete shovelware. Where exactly the truth lies, that I'm afraid I don't know since I haven't played it myself, so before you make any decision I would highly recommend doing a bit of research, just to be on the safe side. You can start by visiting either the official website or Steam.

As for the platforms, Surviving Mars is currently available on Windows, Linux, macOS, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Personally I'd recommend the PC version because it features "extensive modding support", something that always comes in handy, especially if the game has some serious flaws!
