Given how EA and DICE often like to go overboard with paid DLC, I am very happy to say that they have now announced a whole bunch of free updates and community events instead. Everything will kick off on December 5th by having the players align with either the First Order or the Resistance, with the end goal being to complete various challenges in order to receive faction specific rewards.

On December 13th Finn will join the Resistance as a new hero, while the First Order will receive Captain Phasma. You will need to purchase them with in-game credits though, so make sure not to waste all of them before this update even arrives. As for the whole faction war, whichever side completes the most challenges that week will get a special reward: a create full of upgrades for Finn or Captain Phasma.

If you don't really care about new heroes, worry not as December 13th will also mark the release of a new planetary map called Crait, fresh from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. You can also expect to see the Assault map D'Qar, Tallie Lintra's RZ-2 A-wing as a new hero ship, as well as an upgrade for Poe Dameron’s T-70 X-wing that comes with a new ability inspired by The Last Jedi. And if that wasn't enough, there will also be a brand new story chapter for Battlefront 2's singleplayer campaign. In the new Resurrection chapter you will accompany Iden Versio during the early days of the First Order’s rise to power, though the exact plot has not yet been revealed.

As for the future, you'll be glad to hear that all additional heroes, maps, ships, and weapons will be free for everyone who owns the game! If you would like to learn a little bit more about all of this upcoming content, or just about Battlefront 2's imminent November 17th release date, you should head over to the official website. And finally, here's the most recent launch trailer, just for good measure. Enjoy!
