Official artwork for The Last Remnant remaster

The Last Remnant was a rather creative JRPG that attempted to bring in a whole bunch of new gameplay systems and ideas into an often formulaic genre, and for the most part it managed to do so quite successfully. The parts where it failed, however, it failed in quite a spectacular fashion.

Most notably, you could completely ruin your entire playthrough by making some bad decisions early in the game, and the more you attempted to grind in order to correct those mistakes, the more messed up your playthrough would become. So if you didn't know what you were doing, like I didn't, your playthrough would most likely hit a hard wall at around 20 hours in. A rather massive flaw, I'm sure you'll agree, but the gameplay was still enjoyable enough that I gladly dived right back in to try again.

With that in mind, I am very happy to announce that Square Enix is now working on a remastered version of The Last Remnant. What exactly is being changed, Square Enix hasn't shared just yet, but if I were to hazard a guess I would say that the visuals will be getting a bit of an overhaul, and that most of the features that are hostile towards new players will either get better explained or outright removed. Whatever the case may be, it's certainly good to see such a cult classic JRPG make its way back into the spotlight.

The Last Remnant Remastered will be coming this December 6th for the PlayStation 4, while nothing has been said about the other platforms just yet. I fully expect it to arrive on PC after a short delay, like the vast majority of remasters these days, but until we get official confirmation I would recommend against getting too excited.

Once more information springs up, especially about the PC version, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you should check out the official website to see what's going on with The Last Remnant.
