Shadow of the Tomb Raider is set to arrive later this week, on September 14th, for both PC and consoles. It'll bring with it a much more badass version of Lara, as well as move the action from some fairly nondescript locations into quite literally the Mayan apocalypse, with all of the lush jungles, ancient temples and human sacrifices you might expect.

If you're wondering what all of this looks like in-game, as well as where the story itself is heading, you should check out the newly released launch trailer down below. Have a gander, it's a surprisingly well-done trailer:

The early reviews are already out, and so far Shadows of the Tomb Raider seems to be a fairly solid sequel. From what I can tell it's nothing too spectacular or revolutionary, but there does appear to be enough engaging gameplay present to keep the entire journey a pleasant one. So if you're a fan of the latest iteration of Lara Croft, chances are Shadow of the Tomb Raider will appeal to you as well.

Unfortunately, Shadow of the Tomb Raider has also continued the tradition of having non-Lara characters be about as interesting as watching paint dry, a complaint I've seen echoed across numerous reviews. Not a major flaw given that it's an action/exploration focused game after all, but it's still disappointing to hear that yet another AAA game is littered with cliche writing and boring characters.

But whatever the case may be, you can learn more about Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as well as grab yourself a copy once it becomes available, by visiting the official website.
