Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem screenshot of the chilly enemies

[Update]: While a lot smaller in scope, the Serious Sam spin-off rogue-lite Tormental has now also been unleashed.

The freshly released Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem is a standalone expansion for Serious Sam 4 developed by a group of veteran modders under the newly formed Timelock Studio. So as you might imagine, Siberian Mayhem is all about gunning down hordes upon hordes of enemies with over-the-top weaponry, laughing at incredibly low-brow jokes, and naturally, backpedaling your way across the various maps in order to avoid the endless hail of projectiles heading your way.

What all of this nonsense looks like in actual gameplay, that you can find out through the recently posted and shotgun-fueled gameplay preview. Have a gander, it's a pretty fun one:

This will likely come as little surprise after watching that preview, but Siberian Mayhem is essentially a shorter, spruced up version of Serious Sam 4. So if you're in the mood for a relaxing romp through the frozen wasteland, and you don't mind the occasionally ear-shattering screaming, Siberian Mayhem is probably worth checking out.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a game that represents the next step forward for the Serious Sam series, I'm afraid you won't find that here. After all, Siberian Mayhem is mostly a celebration of the games that have come before.

Whatever your thoughts on the matter may be, you can learn more about Siberian Mayhem, as well as check out some of the user reviews, over at Steam. Have fun!
