If you belong to the rather small subset of people that still own a boxed version of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, you'll be glad to hear that Sega has a small surprise for you. Through a promotion that went up yesterday, they have begun offering free Steam copies of Dawn of War to anyone that has the owns the original boxed version.

You can request your Steam key (or keys) by filing a ticket over at the Sega support website, though bear in mind that you might get a followup email requesting an image, or at least some sort of proof to show that you actually own the boxed version.

Whether this is worth the hassle or not, that is up to you to decide, but Dawn of War is a game that has managed to stand the test of time remarkably well. The graphics are dated and some of the map design is far inferior to what you might find in Starcraft 2 today, but other than that its remarkably solid. And I'm not speaking out of pure nostalgia here, I actually replayed it last year!

But if playing through practically ancient games is not your cup of tea, you at least have the upcoming Dawn of War 3 to look forward to! If you haven't seen it already, here's the announcement trailer:
