RuneScape artwork for the mobile version

RuneScape has always been a relatively simple game to play, so much so that you could practically play it while watching Youtube videos on the side. As such, it really shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that Jagex has now announced a mobile version of RuneScape!

The mobile client will not simply be a port of the PC version. It will come with a specially designed interface and controls optimized for mobile, and perhaps most importantly of all, there will be persistent cross-platform play between the various versions. In other words, you can play RuneScape while on the bus, come back home to your PC and just continue on with your adventure.

Old School RuneScape will be hitting mobile devices this winter, while the regular RuneScape will be following shortly, though I'm afraid no specific dates have been given just yet. If you would like to give it a try ahead of launch, and hopefully help the developers iron out all of the bugs, you can sign up for the Closed Beta by heading over to the official website. More details will be revealed on July 19th.
