Even though the remastered version of Quake launched all the way back in August in a remarkably good state, the developers are still releasing updates for it! Best of all, unlike the previous one that mostly focused on quality-of-life improvements and bot support, the freshly released update is all about bringing in new content!

As such, you can expect to see a brand new Horde Mode and the popular 'Honey' mod added in, both of which were created by Wolfenstein studio MachineGames. First things first, here's a brief teaser showing off the new Horde Mode:

When it comes to the specifics behind Horde Mode, it's pretty much exactly what you would expect. You and up to three other players will be sent to fight against hordes upon hordes of enemies in four new maps specifically designed with the game mode in mind. As you cleave through your enemies you'll receive Silver keys that help you unlock new weapons, eventually culminating with a massive battle that will grant you a Golden key and a chance to escape.

Naturally, if you're in it for the challenge you can just remain on the map and fight ever-increasing waves of enemies until you fall. The more you kill, and the faster you kill, the more points you'll get. So the longer you stay, the more points you'll score, and the more you'll be able to annoy your friends by bragging about it.

As for Honey, it's an oldschool mod created by MachineGames' senior level designer Christian Grawert that has now joined the game in an official fashion. It features waterlogged crypts, underground temples, foggy roadways and plenty of other atmospheric locations to make a mess out of. So if you're in the mood for a more traditional Quake experience, Honey's well worth looking into.

You can read more about both of these additions, as well as the remastered version of Quake in general, over at Steam. Have fun!
