[Update]: The sad saga has now come to an end - Babylon's Fall has shut down its doors for good.

Back in March PlatinumGames and Square Enix unleashed the co-op focused action RPG Babylon's Fall onto PC and PlayStation. While the concept and lore were certainly intriguing, pretty much everything else was unfortunately a bit of a mess.

Even though it cost €70 at launch, Babylon's Fall's UI design was seemingly untested and annoying to navigate, the visuals were extremely dated, while the cash shop was constantly getting pushed onto players. Most damning of all, the combination of these factors created a co-op game with barely any players in it, which kind of defeats the whole point.

As such, it should come as little surprise to hear that Square Enix will be closing down Babylon's Fall on February 27, 2023 - less than a year since its launch. The currently ongoing Season 2 will run until November 29, after which there will be a Final Season with the same rewards until the game fully closes. If there is one bright spot in all of this, it would be the simple fact that the developers are planning a variety of events to send Babylon's Fall off with at least a bit of a bang.

"Leading up until today, we received a lot of feedback from all our Sentinels through multiple surveys, official livestreams, our official Discord server and social media channels, which has been a great help to us in the Development and Operations teams," reads the brief announcement. "Despite all of your support, we are truly sad and sorry to say that we will be unable to continue with the game’s service."

Once Babylon's Fall closes down its doors for good, or a miracle happens and it maybe goes free-to-play, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you can read a little bit more about the upcoming events over at the official website.
