Overwatch release date may have been leaked

Its been known for a long time now that Overwatch would be releasing in the spring of 2016, though the specific date was never mentioned.

While there is still no official announcement, an erroneously released advertisement from IGN gave us both the release date and the start of the "open beta". Here's the add, courtesy of Reddit user Deadpoolthegreat:

[Update] Blizzard has come out and officially confirmed that Overwatch is coming for the PC, Xbox One and PS4 on May 24th.

Overwatch release date announced

As you can from the image above, Overwatch is set to release on May 24th, 2016. The chances of this leak being true are incredibly high but I would still recommend against scheduling your vacation for May as Blizzard might alter their plans, or Overwatch encounter a couple of bugs that require a short delay.

The equally interesting part of this leak is the fact that Blizzard doesn't know what open beta means plans to have the preorder exclusive early access period last for three weeks, which is one hell of a head start. Thankfully, Overwatch doesn't feature any pay to win elements, or power upgrades in general, so the difference between early access and launch players will be negligible but its still a strange decision on Blizzard's part.

So there you have it, only two short months to suffer through before finally getting to see whether Blizzard's immensely anticipated new entry was worth all the hype. Until then I'd recommend you shift your attention to Dark Souls 3 which seems to be poised to devour what little free time you might have in April.

[Update] Besides simply confirming this leak, Blizzard has also stated that all post-launch heroes will be completely free.
