Overwatch screenshot of the newest hero Baptiste

If you've been paying attention to the Overwatch competitive scene, chances are you've noticed that the GOATs composition (triple tank and triple support) dominates all others, to the point that most of the DPS heroes are barely ever picked. In order to correct this rather serious issue, as well as bring life to some of the underplayed heroes, Blizzard has now unleashed an absolutely massive balance update, as well as a brand new hero by the name of Baptiste.

For those of you curious about what the new combat medic has to offer, allow me to share with you the recently posted hero overview. He's a pretty fun character to mess around with, and a deadly one as well! Have a look:

I can't exactly comment about Baptiste's place in the meta as he has just been released, but what I can say is that the update that came alongside him is one of the best Blizzard has done in well over a year. Not only has it buffed some of the weakest heroes in the game, but it has finally dished out nerfs to heroes like D.Va, Lucio, Zenyatta and Zarya that have been omnipresent in the competitive scene since it's very inception. You can find all of the details over at the official website, and if you do decide to read all of it, prepare yourself for quite a journey as the patch notes really are extensive!

Personally, as a long time Soldier 76 aficionado, I am beyond excited for this update. He has been pretty much useless for nearly a year and a half at this point, all because his slow and consistent DPS was not enough to ever finish off targets given the increasingly more powerful tanks and supports. However, with his lovely new suite of buffs, I can actually see Soldier becoming a completely viable DPS once more, and that brings me a great deal of joy!

The same applies to a lot of the other heroes, so make sure to go into this update with an open mind, because there is definitely going to be a shake up in the meta. Whether we will transition into a dive meta or not, I have absolutely no idea, but it'll certainly be an interesting few weeks. Have fun messing around with the new hero!
