Overwatch official screenshot for the new hero Echo

[Update #2]: In a truly strange turn of events, Echo is getting banned from Competitive Play a mere week after launch

[Update]: Overwatch's next experimental update will be looking to reduce the power of Crowd Control effects across the board.

After being announced quite a long time ago alongside the McCree and Ashe cinematic short, the enigmatic Echo has now finally been released as a playable character. Not only that, but according to Blizzard, she will be Overwatch's final hero before Overwatch 2 shakes things up again and adds a whole bunch of new ones.

As for what exactly Echo looks like in-game, as well as what her abilities are all about, that you'll find out through the recently posted trailer. Have a look:

While the prevailing opinion among the Overwatch community is that Echo is currently ridiculously overpowered, I can't help but disagree. After playing with and against Echo for quite a few games now, her weakness to hitscan heroes like Soldier 76, Widowmaker or McCree cannot be overstated. Her hitbox is wide and her aerial movements slow, which means that any half-competent shooter can bring her out of the sky with ease.

So if you ask me, I think we'll all need a few more weeks with Echo before we can really judge how strong she truly is. Right now everyone is experimenting and the games are pure chaos, but as soon as a meta forms and people become aware of what Echo can do, things will be quite different.

Whatever the future may bring, you can learn a little bit more about Echo, as well as follow any developer updates, over at the official website.
