The Numbani airport has been devastated for quite a few months now, and after an eternity of rumors and fake leaks we finally have some concrete information about Overwatch's upcoming 25th hero. As you might imagine, the newly posted article is heavily hinting towards Akande Ogundimu, better known as Doomfist.
There are currently no gameplay details available, but if you're interested in a bit of Overwatch lore you can find the full article over at the Overwatch blog. On the other hand, if you're just looking for information on Doomfist, here's pretty much all you need to know:
"Video surveillance from within the compound revealed a black shadowy figure emerging from the craft and descending upon the prison grounds. The unidentified assailant easily overcame the Helix security agents, leaving over a dozen dead. Medical records of the casualties reveal injuries and cellular degeneration matching other incidents involving the mercenary known as the Reaper, all but confirming the incursion as a Talon attack.
Helix officials have been unwilling to reveal whether or not there were additional escapees or items taken from the facility, but sources have indicated that it is likely that there were further security breaches in addition to Ogundimu.
After escaping from the facility, Helix lost track of Ogundimu until he resurfaced in Numbani, where he clashed with the newly introduced OR15 defense robots at the Adawe International Terminal, easily destroying them and reclaiming the Doomfist."
For me the most interesting part of this reveal isn't Doomfist, we've known about him for a while, but rather the fact that Talon has ended up freeing more than one prisoner. This obviously doesn't tell us anything concrete, but it does mean we might be getting yet another Talon agent in the coming months. The world could always use more heroes, but Overwatch right now could really do with a few more villains given how poorly represented they are in-game.
If you're interested in learning more about Doomfist, I'm afraid you're going to have to wait for a little while, but worry not as the full announcement is bound to come in the next few days. Blizzard has followed this type of pattern for Orisa, Sombra, and Ana to a certain degree, so chances are good we'll be getting a developer update this week.
